James is an exciting new artist, he emerged eager to paint after a Ngurra Kutjuwarra (On County, Together) camp to his mother & father's homeland far to the sound of Balgo. James is the youngest son of renowned Warlayirti Artists Ningie Nanala and Tjumpo Tjapanangka (dec). Both his parents walked the Great Sandy Desert into Balgo Mission mid last century. James was born in the mission and the opportunity to visit his ancestral lands is rare. The trip to Lirrwati & Wilkinkarra, retracing his parent's footsteps, inspired James to begin painting. James lives in Balgo with his partner growing up their grandchildren together.
