Susan Young was born in Pipalyatjara and raised a family of talented daughters in Kalka and then moved Tjuntjuntjara. Susan is a multi-skilled artist working between new media, drawing and painting. Susan draws on her experiences of living in Tjuntjuntjara to tell stories of the now. Susan is also key leader in Milpa a digital arts studio run by the Spinifex Arts Project. Susan has explores painting life as it plays out in community, using brushy, painterly techniques to document characters and life in Tjuntjuntjara Community. In 2023, Susan and her husband Gregory Donaldson were leaders in a Milpa art-film making project, recreating the Spinifex Homelands story through multimedia art. Her drawings, masks, objects are highly featured in the films which are scheduled to be exhibited at the WA museum 2024-2025. Susan now lives in Tjuntjuntjara and works at the Spinifex Arts Project, creating designs for various projects. Her original ideas, impressions of her surroundings using multimedia art offers the viewer insight into Spinifex and remote life.
