Positive Thinking
I come from the Great Southern and Wheatbelt regions of Western Australia, born and raised in Katanning, later living in Dumbleyung. Growing up I always had a love for art. I then discovered I had a passion for Aboriginal Art as I got older.
My paintings are greatly influenced by nature and the colours of nature—
the plants and animals, the sky, events that happened in my childhood— remembering hunting trips, stories told by grandparents and parents, travelling throughout the Great Southern region, bush walking at springtime when wildflowers were out in abundance. These are the things that influence my art.
Most of my artwork is done in acrylics on canvas. Painting has recently become a form of therapy for me. I was always too busy and had no time to paint but my love for painting has returned and I have time to focus on doing more painting. I love being able to express myself, my feelings and emotions onto a canvas and tell a story.
During Kambarang (Spring) nature provides a variety of colourful wildflowers. There are so many different shades of colours. I especially loved searching for and finding the purple enamel orchard which grows in the town of Dumbleyung and surrounding areas. Kambarang time is my favourite time of year. In every little bush you pass there is a beautiful wildflower to be discovered.
