2 August – 5 October

The Djilba season marks the return of one of PICA’s most iconic exhibitions – the Hatched: National Graduate Show. Showcasing the next generation of Australia’s contemporary creative voices, Hatched 2025 is presented for the first time in an exciting offsite venue at Forrest Chase in the heart of Perth’s CBD from 2 August to 5 October.

Now in its 34th year, Hatched 2025 continues to champion emerging artists nationwide, featuring the work of 23 artists from 20 art schools across the country. Perfectly positioned near Perth’s central train station, the exhibition’s vibrant new location is a dynamic and diverse hub for contemporary culture – a welcoming space for students, artists and the broader public to discover Hatched.

Snuggled within the exhibition, our free PICA Lab provides a dedicated space for family-friendly activities inspired by the Hatched artworks. Our regular Drop In Saturday Sessions also offer facilitated opportunities for kids to learn about creative problem solving and slow making.

Each year, PICA also awards month-long studio residencies to two exhibiting artists and in 2025 Chloe Catto (University of Tasmania) and Elsa Mona (Edith Cowan University) will undertake residencies to further develop their practices. The outcomes of Chloe and Elsa’s studio residencies will be featured in Matter out of Place, a Hatched Open Studio event taking place at North Metro TAFE’s Shopfront Gallery from 28-30 August.

In 2025 PICA continues its longstanding partnership with The University of Western Australia to present the Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Awards – the largest prize pool for emerging artists in Australia, totalling $50,000. This year’s winners include Samuel Chan, National Art School (NSW), Tom Duffy, University of Wollongong (NSW) and Grace Yong, Curtin University (WA).

Voting is now open for the Hatched National Graduate Show’s 2025 People’s Choice Award which closes on Sunday 29 September. Cast your vote here.

So get your sneakers on and discover Hatched in a whole new location – 3,500 square metres of contemporary art by the next generation of Australia’s art stars!
