Adult Contemporary is an occasional shop and itinerant art space founded by artist Dan Bourke in Boorloo/Perth, WA. The shop features a carefully selected collection of publications concerning art, design, photography, architecture, fashion, music, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and various art editions and objects.
The initiative was inspired by Clare Wohlnick’s shop and project space Coastal Shelf (2009–10) and began assembling an inventory of art publications to sell through its earlier iterations involved in the collaborative artist-run spaces Poetry Club (2010) and Galleria (2011–12).
In 2014, it developed its own identity as Adult Contemporary and became more of a solo venture and a catch-all for Dan’s projects when it began hosting exhibitions and events at his North Perth share house, out of which it ran irregularly for several years.
AC has operated out of Dan’s studio within the Old Salvation Army building in the Perth CBD. Since 2019, it has also run the almost monthly Adult Contemporary Reading Group, a reading group focused on texts concerning art and culture, including both fiction and non-fiction.
AC has been located in the PICA Foyer since 2024.
